RadiSys Starter Kits Accelerate Development of COM Express-Based Products

Comprehensive COM Express design kits from RadiSys let equipment manufacturers kick-start development for faster time to market.

Nuremberg, Germany- Embedded World 2008 (Booth #9-229)- February 26, 2008 — RadiSys Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a leading global provider of advanced embedded solutions, announced today the introduction of a family of comprehensive COM Express design starter kits that streamline COM Express product development. Manufacturers of equipment for imaging, industrial automation, gaming, and test & measurement applications can now obtain all the hardware they need for COM Express prototyping by using a single order code. COM Express starter kits from RadiSys minimize installation requirements and reduce the amount of time design teams need to get development underway, helping to control pre-market cost and time requirements.

Each starter kit provides a COM Express module of choice, pre-assembled with memory, heatsink, and integrated onto a development carrier board with a hard disk drive and the necessary cables. No additional accessories are required, which reduces the time complexity of creating a development system by eliminating questions about component selection and suppliers. All installation is complete other than connecting the cables and supplying power. Product teams can begin prototyping within minutes of opening the box, helping to reduce the time products spend in development, for faster time to profitability.

"Our customers can now order a single product code that includes everything they need to begin COM Express development," said Wade Clowes, vice president, RadiSys commercial segment. "The RadiSys COM Express starter kits remove a layer of developer complexity by pre-assembling hardware components and lets solution designers focus on the unique aspects of their products, instead of spending their time configuring general-purpose commodity equipment."

About Procelerant COM Express
RadiSys Procelerant COM Express modules are designed for embedded applications that require a standard processor and memory subsystem, but also modular flexibility to retain key design level IP on a separate carrier board. Procelerant COM Express products are based on COM Express, a computer-on module standard that provides a bridge from legacy interfaces such as PCI and IDE to new serial differential signaling technologies such as PCI Express, Serial ATA, USB 2.0, LVDS, and Serial DVO.

Because they are modular and standards-based, RadiSys COM Express products help equipment manufacturers shorten their time to market and reduce development costs. By removing the processor, chipset, and memory from the rest of the design, manufacturers can focus engineering resources on developing differentiating features and avoid the design churn that comes with implementing new processor generations. RadiSys also provides a wide range of custom carrier services that further accelerate customer time-to-market by supplying carrier concept definition and design, carrier schematic reviews, BIOS customization and thermal design.
